“Searching for timeless essence in a modern age.” — RJL II
Ronald James Louque, II was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, USA in 1977.
Growing up as the son of nationally acclaimed artist Ronald James Louque, Sr., his earliest memories were formed in artist studios, galleries, museums, and shows around the country. “An invaluable byproduct of being raised in that environment was accidentally learning how to think and solve problems like an artist from an early age.”
Early inspirations were the chiaroscuro style of Rembrandt and romanticism of George Inness. Seeing paintings by those masters in person at the National Gallery in Washington D.C. left a lasting impact as Ron has always been drawn to paintings in those styles.
In 2006, in the midst of what would eventually become an unsatisfying 25 year traditional career in technology, Ron started painting. He received his initial technical training from his father and went on to study the works and teaching of representational oil painting greats David Leffel and Gregg Kreutz. Fifteen years later, in 2021, Ron was fortunate enough to have an opportunity to pursue art seriously and now devotes all of his time to painting.
Ron’s primary interests are coastal landscapes and classical still life. He works exclusively in oil and currently resides in the lowcountry of Beaufort, South Carolina.
